Mothers and Fathers

Looking at little children who are playing mothers and fathers, is sometimes like looking into a mirror. They imitate what they see you do. Occasionally you are shocked by what you see and recognize, and you think “Do I really do that?” read more »

Healing ministry

A good health always is in the top 3 of most important things in life. People who are seriously ill take medication with severe side effects, undergo operations and other painful treatments or follow strict diets, all to get cured or to stay alive. A number of them seeks healing in the alternative circle of faith healing. The bible to describes a lot of healing miracles. In the New Testament is said that there are people with a special gift of healing. How do we relate to these people in church?

Labels:

  • People with a healing gift we call doctors now a days.

  • The healing gift was only for the early church, because there wasn’t a church or a bible.

  • People with a healing gift have a special ministry that supersedes the local church.

The Fivefold Ministry

Harol Eberle once wrote a book about the Fivefold Ministry and when I read it the first time I really was impressed. This from Ephesians 4:11 was the answer for the church! No reverends and church councils, no council of elders and deacons, no pastors and staff. A church lead by a balanced group of people with a special gift of the Holy Spirit, this is how it was meant to be, this was what we had to have!

I was still young. read more »

Judgement

Judging is an item in Christian circles and outside it as well. We all judge and judge some more. On social media and forums you can read peoples ‘opinions’ that used to stay indoors and now sadly enough are shared with the world. But I don’t want to talk about how disrespectful people can be or wonder why people think they know how others should lead their life. I want to talk about the Christian habit to judge and condemn others based on their own Christian values.

Why we should point out their mistakes to others read more »

Sunday rest

The phenomenon rest day dates from just after creation. God was finished creating and he rested from all the work of creating that he had done. The word for rest is ‘shabath’ and also means to cease, to desist. To His people Israel he commanded to celebrate the 7th day by not working but resting.

In the New Testament Jesus handles the Sabbath differently than people were used to, using the motto “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.”(Mark 2:27). From a day to celebrate and rest is was degenerated into a day full of risks of trespassing Gods commandment not to work. read more »

Life vs Death

The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23), but Jesus has come that we may have life, and have it to the full or more abundantly. (John 10:10).

This doesn’t only apply to the life after this one, but also to the here and now.

Death isn’t something that comes only once. In the course of your life now and then a part of you already dies. When a dream shatters, a little hope dies, when your life is turned upside down because of a major event, a little trust dies, when you are fooled, a little innocence dies and with the death a loved one, a part of you dies as well. As a twenty-year-old you won’t be able to be as uninhibited as a small child any more, let alone when you are 60+. Too much is damaged by then. read more »

Enjoy, but use your brains

In Galatians 5 from verse 19 and in Romans 1 from verse 21 a large list of sins is named that gave Christianity the image of ‘you can’t do anything fun’. Among others: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery, covetousness, drunkenness, orgies, deceit.

Here the path of the church and the world divide according to the well known poster into a straight road to hell and a narrow road to your salvation. The message of this picture is: if you can control yourself you are suitable material for the Kingdom of Heaven. read more »

New years resolutions

The old calender is almost empty, time to celebrate we can take a new calender. This is a grand event at which we open bottles of bubbles, light bonfires and produce loud bangs as a precaution for nasty beings not to touch our new calenders. read more »
